Seven Pounds Movie Review {/5}: Critic Review of Seven Pounds by Times of India
For the most part, Muccino accomplishes this precise balance that Grant Neoporte's screenplay requires. Hopefully no one will have told you the twist before seeing the film or it's kind of a waste. This is not the case with Will Smith in this movie. He offers up a lung. It's easy to make you laugh but it's quite difficult to make a person cry from his heart. The reason at this point remains unknown. The movie opens with only pieces of the story being told and those are out of sequence.
It was certainly better than the Changeling and almost as good as the Green Mile. Those who choose to access this Web Site from other locations do so, on their own initiative and their own risk and are responsible for compliance with local laws. Who does he think he is? There are also some moral and theological problems. The man better win an Oscar before he is done or it will be a travesty—at least in my mind. But love too turns out to be forbidden for angst-ridden Ben who desperately tries to turn his back to a second chance, only because it's redemption rather than romance that our hero is scouting for. He was completely and utterly convincing in this very, very serious role.
I do not know how or what the so called self critics are seeing, but I don't think it's the same movie I just finished watching. Will Smith pulls in a good performance, but not his best, just most of the film required him crying in every scene, but the last one with him is a doozy. Various women wear dresses and tops that reveal cleavage and lots of leg. You transmit or provide such information at your own risk. It actually takes a lot out of you to watch.
Director Gabriele Muccino gives you the ability to enter his new film Seven Pounds whichever way you prefer as he starts at the end and works his way back to the beginning, showing us the course of events that led us to that heartbreaking 911 call. Surely, this is a flashback, back when Ben Will Smith and the names, the fatal victims of a horrific car accident, they sting him like a box jellyfish. Swerving violently, Tim collides with a van, causing both cars to roll violently and kill the six occupants of the van as well as Tim's wife. After that he begins searching for more candidates to receive donations. Ben wears only a towel after showering. Its tentacles wrap around Tim's arm and deliver a sting which causes a quick but excruciatingly painful death.
I haven't seen too many films where the chemistry is genuine; kudos to the both of them. You will need a box of tissues. In one scene, he berates a blind meat salesman on the phone named Ezra Woody Harrelson with hard hitting insults that caused me to wince in discomfort. And this is from the team that brought us the overrated, sappy, and not all that redeeming Pursuit of Happiness, so I'll just say my anticipation was closely guarded for a big letdown. Our entry point is a bit jarring, leaving us off-kilter trying to comprehend what is going on. Ben goes door to door—and hospital to hospital—auditing people at the oddest times and in the oddest ways. Will Smith handpicked Ealy for the role of the main character's brother.
It all starts with a suicide. The pensive score, the subjective cinematography and even the muted aspect of the featured performances all contribute to a sense of being trapped inside a waking dream, or nightmare. He begins to fall in love with her and decides that as her condition has worsened he needs to make his donation. This film blew me away. Or the misshapen—and somehow frightening—ideas about life and death that he embodies.
Fertilize your rose bushes with banana peels — sorry, that was a spoiler. Connie is too scared of repercussions to press charges, leaving Holly powerless to help. Ben sacrificially provides that wherewithal, giving her his house, a car and money to start over. I highly recommend it, if you love Will Smith's movies. He's also donating an organ to a beloved local basketball coach he barely knows. This is the first time I have ever posted.
Even so, it is still a captivating movie with some poetic, inspiring moments. At first he tries to remain standoffish not offering to her a rhyme or reason as to why he has befriended her. Don't leave the theater because you get confused as to what is going on! Why such misery should also be inflicted on an innocent, affirmation-hungry audience — and also on the marvelous Ms. Tim moves out of his house and into a local motel taking with him his pet box jellyfish. Yes it's a little slow, but its real. I am so thankful for this. Personal space and boundaries don't much matter to him, and as a result he comes off as a creepy stalker more often than not.
Having stolen his brother's credentials, and making himself known by his brother's name Ben, he checks out candidates for his two final donations. I will mention some of it here without trying to give a lot away. Despite this, Stewart pleads for a 6 month extension so that he can pay with his bonus in January, whereas Ben leaves with the matter unresolved. What I will say is it takes more than half the movie for director Gabriele Muccino to get to even thinking about hinting to what it is. Though the starting of the movie was kind of boring and I thought I would kill my friend who suggested to watch the movie. Reduce the risk by joining forces with such organizations and by speaking out. The camera does focus on the top of Emily's breast and Ben's stomach—both of which are scarred from operations.
