For the most part, Muccino accomplishes this precise balance that Grant Neoporte's screenplay requires. Hopefully no one will have told you the twist before seeing the film or it's kind of a waste. This is not the case with Will Smith in this movie. He offers up a lung. It's easy to make you laugh but it's quite difficult to make a person cry from his heart. The reason at this point remains unknown. The movie opens with only pieces of the story being told and those are out of sequence.
It was certainly better than the Changeling and almost as good as the Green Mile. I do not know how or what the so called self critics are seeing, but I don't think it's the same movie I just finished watching. Will Smith pulls in a good performance, but not his best, just most of the film required him crying in every scene, but the last one with him is a doozy. Surely, this is a flashback, back when Ben Will Smith and the names, the fatal victims of a horrific car accident, they sting him like a box jellyfish. Swerving violently, Tim collides with a van, causing both cars to roll violently and kill the six occupants of the van as well as Tim's wife. After that he begins searching for more candidates to receive donations. Ben wears only a towel after showering. Its tentacles wrap around Tim's arm and deliver a sting which causes a quick but excruciatingly painful death.
I haven't seen too many films where the chemistry is genuine; kudos to the both of them. You will need a box of tissues. In one scene, he berates a blind meat salesman on the phone named Ezra Woody Harrelson with hard hitting insults that caused me to wince in discomfort. And this is from the team that brought us the overrated, sappy, and not all that redeeming Pursuit of Happiness, so I'll just say my anticipation was closely guarded for a big letdown. Our entry point is a bit jarring, leaving us off-kilter trying to comprehend what is going on. Ben goes door to door—and hospital to hospital—auditing people at the oddest times and in the oddest ways. Will Smith handpicked Ealy for the role of the main character's brother.
