Elements of Art: Color

Blue and orange, red and green, yellow-green and red-purple. If your little person has enough control over a pencil they can create value scale from light to dark using more or less pressure on a pencil. There would be absolutely no art without the seven elements of art. There are many forms of texture; the two main forms are actual and visual. I have to say, this is by far one of the best resources I have found yet! A line is an element of art. The final element of art is color.

Element of Art

It is important for art students to not only be exposed to color theory, but to understand it. Color theory is defined as a theory because it cannot be proved. Picasso's use of blue as the corresponding color of sadness is counteracted by the comforting shade of the brown guitar. Color is what we see when light reflects off of an object. It can be created from sculptural materials like clay, wax, plaster, wood, stone, concrete, cast and constructed metal, plastics, resins, glass and mixed media. A discussion about the names of these shapes, or lack thereof, and the variety of possibilities will be a fun one for sure! Organic shapes commonly depict nature and shapes inspired by the natural environment.

Color Theory

If you decide to vary the size and placement of your lines and shapes, you will use another element. The teacher should encourage the students to use a full range of value in their artwork. They simply wanted to use color that spoke to the spirit, celebrating its vitality and feel-good factor. It is an exciting, ever-changing science.
